- Musical Words

One day, we were talking about how you could imbed "subliminal" messages into tunes using musical notes.

For example: "Be a Dada cafe":

B E A D A D A C A F E

Sarah went off and compiled a list of words that would be suitable for "encoding" using the traditional western scale. Of course, if you use (e.g.) Harry Partch's 44 note scale you can spell-out whatever words you want, and have plentry of notes to spare to represent punctuation (???).

Bach was fond of using this "system". In his day in Germany they also had an "H" note, which enabled him to "sign" many of his pieces with the sequence B A C H (Bb A C B in modern notation.)

Sarah's also tested these words on the keyboard, to check them for harmony, she's provided the following symbols as a guide:
+ Good, = Okay, - Horrid. Some of the notes can be sharpened or flattened to help eliminate the "horridness", which Sarah has already done to a few of the words here.

We'd be interested to hear from you if you've actually made any use of this information, see the Contact page for details of how to get in touch.
