You can create an incredible (and loud) din, rather reminiscent of guitar feedback, simply by playing a cymbal with a violin bow. You need quite a tight grip on the nut at the top of your stand, and it helps a lot if you can tilt the top of your stand so that the cymbal is at a right angle to it's normal position.
