Technical Services for Artists
As I'm both a "technical boffin" & an
artist,
I'm uniquely positioned to provide all sorts of technical help & advice to other artists.
As well as my usual
video,
audio &
web design
services - I can provide solutions to all manner of technical problems in your
artistic practice.
It's difficult to provide full details of what I can do for you here, as
rather than making your ideas fit my "products", I'm here to
give you help specific to your own needs. But here are a few examples of what
I've done for others:
- ArtSite Limited are currently using my
"gallerymatic" system to display videos and slideshows on a TV or video projector in their gallery,
"The Post Modern". This system provides greater reliability and ease-of-use than could be obtained
from using DVD players and can play digital video in almost any format.
- I developed software to create a realistic kaliedoscope for transitions between images in
a video installation project for artist, Christine Durrant.
- Working on the
Mechanics Institute Preservation Trust's
Rolling Exhibition, I:
- created a device using a "re-cycled" computer and a
burglar alarm sensor that played a sound-effect as visitors entered a certain room;
- set up some more "re-cycled" computers to display slide shows &
videos automatically as soon as they were switched on;
- mastered DVDs to play in looped mode as soon as the players are switched on;
- & generally helped out setting up TVs, video players, etc.
- During his residency in Swindon Art Gallery, I converted
Ray Ward's
computer animations and soundbites into a DVD, so that he could leave them running on a TV
rather than leaving his laptop in the gallery.
